I first drove the Alcan in 1995, the year before they started straightening it out. I just got my license a few years before that and never been on a road trip. My best friend was moving back up from Oregon and he needed someone to tag along with him.

We drove to Montana to visit a relative of mine and then north to Edmonton. I joked that what if Cops pulled us over and we could be on tv. About an hour after that I got pulled over for speeding...lol. We got lucky and just got a warning from the RCMP. We got further north past Edmonton and I just about killed us after a plow passed going the opposite direction. Let's just say I didn't get to drive until a couple days later after I don't know how many 360's on the highway.

In 2005 I bought a Ranger in Seattle and drove up with my best friend. We were outside of Fort Nelson and I needed to take a power nap. She was sleeping and I pulled into a rest area around 730 at night in the dark. I parked next to a pile of snow and took a nap while she was sleeping. I felt someone poking my shoulder, "I think we ran off the road!" I was in a hard sleep at this point, I had to figure out that I stopped on purpose, she thought I ran off the highway.

On a solo drive down to Seattle and back in spring 2006, on the way back I was tired and was on my way from Fort Nelson to Watson Lake one day. After you leave Swift River the highway ventures back into BC. I saw the sign, "Welcome to British Columbia." I swore that I was driving south again. I had to stop for a few minutes to figure that out. Moron.
