Not all the cars in southeast are totally rusted threw. You could get a nice Subaru like this in Ketchikan for around $4000. I've slept in the back of one and it's pretty comfortable. Plus they are more reliable then a Toyota and they get better gas mileage.
The one in the pic is an 85 or 86 with only 40,000 miles on it.

Thats a nice Subaru? For 4 grand? No way! I could get 3 of those for that money! I wouldn't give more than a grand for that thing and thats just from looking at the picture. Maybe I should start a used car dealership in Ketchikan...hmmm...

U want to buy a vehicle for about $3500 max and you and your friend wish to bum around living in it for a month in Alaska before heading South to the lower 48. Sounds awfully risky to me not only because there are not a lot of vehicles fitting your spec in that price range that are reliable even in the lower 48. Then you are driving through some unfamiliar rugged country to boot and with a female companion. I can understand risking your own life but what about hers? I guess, the very least, if you still decide to make such a trip, you both will be rather aromatic long before making the states.

I may have a nice Plymouth Voyager (minivan) for sale here in a week or so. And it works very well for the camping/touring thing. 2 people can sleep in the back easily...and still have room for coolers and backpacks. It has a crack across the windsheild but I won't charge you any extra for it!

Rance, I thought it was a Manvan? I slept in the back of my truck a couple summers ago on my trip to the Seattle Supercross. The next day I got a hotel room. I love beds.

Come'on!! Have you been to Kethcikan lately? If the fenderwells aren't rusted through it's NICE!!! Plus it's still got good paint on the doors.

As an owner of a 92 4Runner, you will be hard pressed to buy a 93 4Runner for under 3K unless it has more than 250K miles and is a rust bucket. I have seen 88 4Runners going for more than 3K with 200K plus miles. Remember Toyotas hold their value very well, even older ones.

I'm looking at a newer man van Warpt. So I"ll be looking at selling the current one. For a mere 2500. Will include summer/winter tires and remote start. Not a dent or rust spot on it.

I got no time for steam cleaning. And thats just gonna raise the price to say...3000. Not to mention I would feel confident enough to jump in and head for the lower 48 in an hours notice. I just don't need 2 man vans in the garage. Somebody did me a favor when I bought it...and I'll pass that on to the next person. I'm not out to make any money.

Point is, if one is patient and shops around...you can find decent deals on dependable used vehicles.
