My family and I are relocating to Homer for a teaching job, but we can't seem to find a job for my husband. He's worked in the concrete industry for 20 years and has a CDL. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much!

If he's got a CDL he can probably drive school bus in the winter...and a gravel truck in the summer. Usually there is a shortage of drivers come summer. I don't know if Homer has a concrete business or not. There are a couple in and around Kenai/Soldotna. Surely Homer has one. Let me poke around some.

Thinking of taking a temp job in Homer. My question is we are an interracial couple and worry about whether that would be a problem in a smaller town? Any input.

I don't think there is any town in this state where you will have a problem with that. Especially in Homer. If there is...tell me. I'll be looking to kick some you know what. Anybody that starts that crap does not belong here period.

A lot of the small-town construction outfits contract state-wide, they have to. There usually isn't enough local work to keep an outfit busy all the time, so they hit the road (usually building roads) in the summer and try to squeeze in the local stuff when they can. Anchorage and Fairbanks are a different story, though with the housing construction slowdown it's hard to say these days.
They're always looking for CDLs here, but its usually for seasonal work. |
