Everything will be up & running before the tourists get there. Otherwise they'd probably drop Juneau as a cruise port.

I heard that it will take at least 3 months to get the hydro power back up. It could take longer. The tourist season will have come and gone in 4 months.

Very true, very true... Besides electrical generation for homes, who is the largest user of electricity in the area?

Hmmmm. Keeping the Federal building lit like a Christmas tree 24/7 and a few other places.

Oh, I was wondering how much prices will go up at the jewelry stores & other tourists traps to recoup the new costs for electricity.

It doesn't matter. It's the Juneauites who suffer and those are the ones I care about. I could give hoot less about tourons. They'll pay for something they want.

Well then perhaps the touron catering stores should be told to shut down since they don't provide any kind of community related service.

I would prefer to see them heavily taxed, with the money from the taxes going to our relief fund.

There's no reason to be ridiculous, Barkley. Tourons provide some revenue. All I'm saying is that it's not very likely they will feel the crunch that the locals will. They will come and go and see or experience very little of what JNU is really like. It's the locals who will pay for this and who will suffer.

That would be an interesting idea to propose to the legislature. After all tourism is a renewable resource.
