Well, my evil plot is to heavily tax out of state companies who own tourism-oriented businesses here, and then tax cuts for Alaskan owned businesses in the hopes that it would encourage more locally owned business. I would also like to see us refuse to let cruise ships dock until they register their boats in America or another developed western nation, because they use being registered in the bahamas as a way to get around paying their employees minimum wage, along with not paying taxes on their income.
The second part probably won't happen, but if I still have spunk when the legislature opens again next January I may approach one of of legislators... In the meantime I still have a trick up my sleeve...

What are you talking about? I thought you couldn't just approach a legislator in JNU because they are more approachable in Wasilla. Oh....that's another thread. Nevermind.

Well, I meant e-mail approach. See, here in Juneau we have great legislators, and most of them happen to be friends of the family.

the tourists pay 50 bucks each to the city whether they like it or not, it's added to their ticket. it's called the "head tax".
the ships refill their fresh water tanks here, buying it from us of course.

the people who will sufer from this will be the common everyday dick and jane household. spring, summer, and fall has always been the preriod of relief and regrouping, building your finances for the next coming winter.
Some people are just going to be royally screwed by this avalanche. And no one wants to talk about it.

That's right. They don't want to talk about it because they can't be bothered by it. They'd rather ooh and aah at the birth of Gov Palin's son. Front page news, don't you know.
