Not sure I want to do the whole, "hi, welcome to Juneau, watch your step" thing day in and day out.
There's still quite a few opportunities, but I refuse to work for non-locally owned businesses. Of course this generally means the pay is a little lower, but it's a question of ethics, you know?
What about the cannery? Or is that a big no? I knew a guy who worked there 2 summers ago. He liked it well enough. I was going to suggest CruiseWest for naturalists until you mentioned the whole local company thing.

I'll be honest... the idea of coming home smelling like fish every night is not terribly appealing.
As for cruisewest, I'd work for them in a heartbeat, but they require me to be able to travel around a lot, go on weeklong trips, etc. My dog complicates things a lot, but I do want to have her with me because the family promised to pay some of my rent if I take her.

Is there someone you trust to watch your dog if you have to go out? I think cruisewest is a really good deal for you if you could swing it. If I were there, I'd dog sit for you so you could have that opportunity. And no, Iwouldn't let her play with Romeo!

I don't think Romeo would eat Cheesecake. She's so small, he probably wouldn't even taste her! But he might kill her because she'd probably annoy the crap out of him. A bit yippy, she is.
I might be able to find someone, but I still really don't want to be gone overnight. I'm one of those people who needs her space sometimes, and a small boat filled with tourons is not a good place to be during those times!

I totally get you there. Even seasonal jobs need to be tolerable and you need the ability to escape the madness. I too value my space.

Hmm... Maybe you could be the personal shopper on a ship. You could have a private cabin.

Not even for a million dollars would I so much step on board one of those horrible things. As it is I have qualms about working in the tourism industry, which is why I have the stipulation about locally owned businesses.

Cruisewest is a totally different game and set up than Princess or any of those other outfits. I think Xa'at needs to go on a NOAA ship.

After I graduate I'd very much like to do that. I would really like to see more of the state.
I'm also probably going on exchange in a few years. Neat, right?
