So it's almost no clouds over Juneau and the forecast is for a strong Northern Lights episode:

As well as for tomorrow. How far would one usually go from downtown to see them?

You could probably stand in the middle of the Douglas bridge and see them.

However if it is windy, dont stand there for safety reasons

There might be a little too much light pollution out on the bridge...
With Juneau, the biggest thing is finding a place where you have a good clear view of the northern sky. As you know if you're here or have been here, we don't have a lot of sky because the mountains are so big.
If you really, really want to see them, I'd say your best bet would be to take north douglas and go to the boat launch or outer point. Auke Bay would be okay too, but if you're downtown n. Douglas is probably closer.

I was going to say Auke Lake would be a good place. I know I've seen the lights there before while skating on the frozen lake.

Default Auroras in Craig

One of my co-workers was doing owls surveys and I guess we had some weak Aurora Borealis show 2 nights ago...man, I've been here for several years and haven't seen them yet. One guy asked me if I always went to bed early, and it's not that...just not at the right place, right time!

I would LOVE to see them...is there an "Aurora watch" website network out there somewhere for AK??
