Default The Nenana Ice Classic

The ice under the tripod in Nenana is quite thick this Spring, so maybe it's taking longer than usual (??)

Default It's COLD!

Sand Point, Alaska (Airport)
Updated: 9 min 40 sec ago 25 °F / -4 °C
Overcast
Windchill: 11 °F / -12 °C
Humidity: 54%
Dew Point: 10 °F / -12 °C
Wind: 18 mph / 30 km/h / 8.2 m/s from the NW

Wind Gust: 23 mph / 37 km/h / 10.3 m/s
Pressure: 29.92 in / 1013 hPa (Rising)
Visibility: 10.0 miles / 16.1 kilometers
UV: 0 out of 16
Clouds: Few 2100 ft / 640 m
Overcast 2900 ft / 883 m
(Above Ground Level)
Elevation: 20 ft / 6 m

Right now, it's snowing. Ground frost is within three or so inches of the surface. Not a lot in the way of buds, and day before yesterday the crocus finally began to bloom.

Having over 150 starts for the garden, I cannot hardly wait for spring to actually arrive.

I tell ya, the dogs are amazing: sleep right through this outside, with smiles and happiness! Would that I were so tough ....

At least they extended the deadline for removing studded tires! I am very thankful I did not get around to it, so far

Yes, very cool spring/breakup. Just three days ago, the snow had finally melted off the surface of my vegetable garden! Last year, we were planting here in my neighborhood, the first week of May!
