That sounds like AK prices around the major cities, which could be much higher in the bush. Diesel fuel costs around $4.29 at the pump in Fairbanks, and mid-grade gasoline about what you are paying. Fuels prices are supposed to continue increasing as summer approaches.

Heating fuel should reach $4.00 per gallon if the present trend continues. Rent is very high around Fairbanks. For example, a 2-bedroom apt. costs around $1,200 per month outside of the "bad areas" of Fairbanks, and the landlord usually requires a month worth of security deposit.

kewcom, we would be able to be much more helpful if you could give us some idea of what areas you are interested in. Remember, Alaska is a very big state- measured by area we are just about 3 x the size of Texas.

Like Ray said, gas really varies on where in the state you go. I know that when I was home for Spring break gas in Haines was $3.90 a gallon.

Shhhh....Texas does not want the general public to know that. It will bruise their egos

Plus it voids the "Everything is bigger in Texas" statement.
