If they THINK it's going to snow here, schools are closed.

In South Dakota, you had to be more then 2 miles from the "city" to ride a bus and snow did not close schools down there. There were some uphill areas too lol So we did walk to school uphill in the snow kinda

In the coastal villages above the arctic.. no matter what is going on.. school and a normal type day is going on, traveling in horizontal snow is a real trip to get used to.

The worst I have ever seen it up here was Jan of 89 (Point Hope) We had actual temps of more than 60 below with 120 mph winds for over 3 weeks.. village life went on as usual !! Planes could not land, and the store was quickly running out of food. I remember it very well, walking backwards.

Before they put up the snow fence in Pt. Hope.. it was very common to hear over the CB radio.. "can someone come dig us out ? we can't get out of our house. 30 foot drifts were very common. completly burying a whole house Pt. Hope is the windiest place in the entire state of Alaska. Wind maps for the state show various regions with numbers of 1- 5 for strength of wind.. Pt. Hope is a 7

I never had snow days off when I was in school. I lived a mile from our school and crosscountry skied everyday in the winter. If there wasn't 6 inches of snow on the ground I was riding a bike. The bus always took so long and it was a dang rough ride back in those days.

Well, guess you all can laugh at we Colorardoans. Does it surprise you? You think Colorado and you think snow...usually. The difference is that our snow melts the day after. Our average winters are usually in the low 40s and often it will hit 50.
Well, just thought I would ask and possibly throw a chuckle your way.
Lynette from Colorado Springs

I am in Colorado Springs and I laugh everytime school is delayed or cancelled. If it snowed the night before, we have a 2 hour delay. If it is currently snowing, delay or cancellation. I can't imagine you all play this hilarious game!
Hahaha!! In the Fairbanks area, school closes when it rains! Seriously! I work for the school system, and have been in the area for 9 years. In that time frame, we have never closed the schools for snow, or negative temps. The ONLY time we have ever closed schools has been for freezing rain! It is a joke throughout the area that in Alaksa we don't have snow days, we have rain days!
