When did you go? The Alcan is theoretically 100% paved now though there is always construction ongoing, last time I drove part of it (Fairbanks to Haines Junction) a large portion around Burwash Landing was being resurfaced.

The Cassiar Hwy (Hwy 37) on the other hand...stretches remain gravel though they have been paving sections gradually as traffic - particularly industrial traffic - has increased...

I don’t understand this either? I drove Alcan twice about 18 years ago and was no different then any other road I’ve ever driven. Fuel stops seemed to be the only thing you might need to pay attention too. My brick shaped 94 Wrangler with 4.0 either 3 speed auto didn’t run into fuel problems either time.

Times must have changed. A few years ago, handguns could not be transported through Canada when traveling to Alaska by road. But long guns could be transported, although "sealed" by customs.

Something I didn't understand about the title of this thread was the, "Travel To Alaska From The Lower 50th"

Is there anyone who can chime in on the regulations concerning bringing firearms into Canada if traveling through to Alaska? Is this a NO GO period, or is there a method to get approval prior to travel? We use a .44 magnum revolver and a Glock 26 for this, so any input on these specific firearms would be greatly appreciated. I tried doing some research online, but the info is very ambiguous and lacking. I was hoping someone in the Alaska forums who travels back and forth may know a little more.
There are currently travel restrictions due to COVID. You may want to check to see if you’ll be allowed in Canada.

This trip is still a ways out. I am not planning on going within the next year. I like to plan way in advance. I planned a previous 3 week Canada trip almost a year and a half out.

Enjoy and make sure you get the milepost. I lived in Alaska as a child and hope to return someday.
