WHAT? How is asking about crime and bad areas racist. Some prejudice exsist with everyone but I don't think it is crippling to anyone to deal with. Thats the way things work, prejudice doesn't come out of no where, people can make blanket assumptions about an area based on economic status and sometimes nationality. If you go too over board with trying to be so unbiased that is over doing it, and why be so concerned with it. People catigorize things because thats how your brain works, you put information in your brain based off of similiarities and make assumptions or broad concepts or ideas about things. And unfortunatly a lot of minorities are in the low income areas which are prevelant with crime and other factors that go with low income areas. I am sure these people well not all don't mean that every minority is a bad person or every poor person in bad, but I don't think you should be so sensetive to peoples remarks about poor areas or groups. I do know there is a fine line but you are not going to find any place ever free of prejudice this is just how people orginize thoughts. Most people in bigger cities can differentiate between their own prejudice and knowing that people don't all fall into the same category. Going to a place like Alaska I guess it depends on where and the experiences people have had with other cultures, but it is my assumption that you can find higher degrees of understanding in large cities and not in small rural areas. So my point is don't get so focused on these thoughts, and put off my them and long as people aren't pin pointing that they hate all "black" because of their experiences, what you are describing isn't as harsh as racism, you would benifit from more understanding all around even for those who make comments about areas to live in. You can be an extremist on either end of the stick. Find a place in between.

Bohemian Enigma....

Why shouldn't there be.....
you looked around the lower 48 lately.

The mexicans are everywhere, right up to the Canadian Border thanks to The Smirking Chimp...so-called "Guest Workers"

They multiply like rabbits and know how to work the welfare system and free medical system at US taxpayers expense

Not many in Alaska....they don't like the cold

We need to EXPORT them all back to Mexico.....

Yeah, I totally agree with ya, Sarkar...back where I moved to AK from, the proof is in the pudding. The state welfare system is overwhelmed and can no longer support anyone who is trying to make ANY money...folks of Hispanic origin with no jobs have pretty well have it made, because there's such a huge number of them.

These aren't paranoid fantasies; our frustration in this area stems from fact and personal observation.

My personal observation is that the Hispanics in the agricultural industry in Oregon work pretty damned hard at jobs the rest of us wouldn't even consider. I'll take them over white meth trash any day.

Danny, you have a dm

Hey...I don't have a problem with the folks that have jobs and are here legally! We were talking about welfare, remember?

And there's a reason some of us won't consider those jobs; Americans have been fighting since the beginning to force companies to pay a decent wage for a decent day's work. Some of those jobs clearly do not do that...so WTF would we take them? The fact that the companies can get Mexican workers to work for pennies just hurts us all in the end, anyway!
