Alaska is a lot more tolerant of interracial couples than many of the states outside. My wife is a Filipina, and I am caucasian. A lot of the families here are mixed, native, black, white and asian. Can't say for sure about Soldotna as a community. It would seem odd to me if it was all that different from the rest of the state.

Soldotna is no different. THere are a good selection of mixed couples. Even in the schools they all seem to get along fine. At least when my boys were in school there was never any issues I ever heard of racially. I think we have better things to worry about than who's dating who or who's living with who etc.

Check out theK-Beach area it is the back side of keani and soldotna. It is smaller and convient to everything. It is smaller less is more right. We moved out of the area in 2003 I owned a childrens store and it was nice but you had to drive 2.5 hours just to see a real large store (wal-mart) not even a mall? It was nice though we moved due to lack of job. As of yesterday my husband wants us to move back. He has been commuting and is tired of the commute? Go figure. We bought a cute little home in Kentucky (which we have customized to the nines) and now comtomplate selling or renting? I am looking toward wasilla palmer area now for the greener areas?
Anyone know of a good investment for a LARGE HOME and LAND for the true fixer-upper or unfinished home I am willing to consider anything that has potential. Anyone need a home for swap during the summer?

be careful
Be careful about just asking folks on the Kenai if their house if finished. Just because it's been covered with Tyvek house wrap doesn't mean its not done. Some folks are probably on their third or fourth roll by now, probably never will get that siding installed.

Have to do it . . .
So, I am prejudiced . . .
But, I must recommend Cordova, since it is where I live.
Safe? Very much.
Tolerant? I would say so, if you are talking about mixed race couples - no worries on that, I think.
Compassionate people? As in so many locations in AK, Cordovans (if they get to know you, and you are not a total lowlife) will never let you starve, freeze, or go lonely, and if you are so inclined, good luck on staying sober This applies in particular to wintertime, when everyone here is 'local'.

Delta Junction is very nice.. A great community with most all of the things you mentioned, we are 100 miles form Fairbanks, so major shopping is a day trip. I have been here a year and am very happy
There are some good jobs to be had on Ft Greely, too.

I have experienced so much help from people in the community; from finding a winter job in off-season to fixing my truck/boat, showing me a couple good hunting spots. No place is perfect--I also have had a couple negative experiences with petty teenage crime and a crazy person, but I don't find that to be the norm. My area has a small library, a couple restaurants, and there is a small group of locals who work on bringing cultural events here...local artists, occasionally a band, etc. Check out Craig, Thorne Bay, Petersburg, Wrangell, Haines, Sitka.

And Seward has the sealife center that is interesting and a couple of good restaurants and the harbor and, correct me if I'm wrong, but, I thought I had heard that resurrection bay does not freeze (not the same thing as saying you can swim all winter)

Do towns with 60% Native American people mind Caucasians? Do they accept them well?
