Well, we're finally here and love it!
Well, we've finally arrived and I must say that so far that I love it. We arrived late Saturday afternoon in Anchorage and by 5 pm yesterday, we had bought a house in Wasilla. It is our absolute dream house and we put an offer in less than two hours after we saw it. One counter-offer later, it was ours. I really like the people here so far. Everyone I've met has been extremely friendly and the views are incredible. Our new home has a panoramic view of the surrounding ranges that cover about a 250 degree radius of viewing angle. Awesome. And what is this strange liquid falling from the sky today? I barely saw any in California.

Congrats on arriving! Wish we could have stayed there last week, really didn't want to come back to MI. It's all I/we think about now. Couple more months for us

Thank you very much and I wish you the best of luck. Our extensive research paid off in spades and we are now looking forward to getting settled in. It will be a few weeks before our belongings get shipped but that's a small price to pay.

You're so right, research research and research some more. That's what we've been doing for months now.

I'm looking out the hotel window and all I see is mountains. Beats the hell out of concrete and traffic in Silicon Valley.

Are you staying at the Grandview? That is the one we stayed at when we were there. It will take a few weeks for our things to arrive as well...but I am already looking around for new furniture (bedroom sets, living room) and what colour to paint the walls. Helps to pass the time as I am impatient as all hells for June 5th to arrive.

Nope, we've been sequestered by my wife's employer at an extended stay complex. It isn't the best but when your not paying, one really can't complain.

My wife is worried that I will want to move up there after we go. I told her that I've already been researching houses.

No...one certainly can't. It is good though, having those mountains as yon view. I am thoroughly happy for you! Now make the time fly so we can move into our own home

You won't regret it. The housing market up here is pretty stable but we got one heck of a steal because the owner had already vacated and a previous purchase fell through. We got it for $60,000 less than it's original listing price 5 months ago.
Just do your homework, obviously, and you'll find what you're looking for. Property taxes are pretty high in the Matsu valley but the lack of income/sales taxes more than makes up for it. Not to mention that residents get the "dividend" checks which also help lessen the blow according to our agent.
Time to start kissing the wifey's behind.
