I remember many years ago arriving in Kodiak on the Homer - Kodiak ferry. The view reminded me of Grand Lake, Colorado

While those photos look similar, and both are beautiful, those places aren't at all alike. The Colorado photo is a fresh water lake and no glaciers. The Kodiak photo is a marine environment with glaciers on the mountains. And, you ain't catching a 100lb halibut in Colorado.

Of course, the two places are nothing alike.

However, the question was "Areas in the Lower 48 that remind you of Alaska?" and the view pulling into Kodiak reminded me of the view in Grand Lake - as you even say, the photos look similar.

I am with you on this. After living in a lot of places, and then Alaska, the only places that seem a little familiar are within Alaska, and the Northern Canadian regions. I haven't been in Northern Siberia, but I image that the landscape is somewhat similar to Alaska's. Also, the weather patterns, wildlife, forests, and landscapes all look similar regardless of season (winter, spring, summer, and fall). In other words, looking at the landscape during a hot summer, it does not show tumbleweeds, cactus, and the usual wildlife and plants found in the barren canyons of Nevada (for example).

That said, we all see things in a different way from each other.

The only other state that comes to mind when I'm looking at the lower, snowless mountains here in SE, but above the dense evergreen tree line, is Hawaii.

Probably not quite the angle OP is looking for.

Haven't poked my nose back here for awhile, but I was stationed out on Naval Air Station Adak Ak. for 14 months back in '75 - '76 with the occasional trip up to Elemendorf and out to Shemya air force bases, if that counts. Every time the Russkies put out a boomer from Valdavastock the P-3 ASW squadrons put everything they had in the air.

I don't think there is anywhere that is similar to those two places. Rain and wind, wind and rain. Repeat.
