However, going to the Olive Garden for an Italian food fix is quite simply WRONG.

Considering that I spent most of my life in highly ethnic Pittsburgh where Italian food is to be treasured, I agree wholeheartedly with your statement.

My ex-mother in law was born in Sicily. She honestly wasn't a very good cook; she just didn't like it much. But even her lamest attempts put places like the Olive Garden to shame.

When the offspring went off for a couple of years to Europe, he said that the food in Sicily was the best he had ever had. Except for of course his mother's homemade bread

It's going OK. It is annoying to have her around but she does make a conscious effort to stay out of our hair. Plus, she is teaching my daughter sooooooo much. I know that it just sounds like typical parental pride but it's looking more and more like my daughter is going to be one extremely smart cookie and Grandma is helping that along in a big way.

She's only 17 months old and the other night my wife quoted one line from one my daughter's (Izabella is her name) favorite books (Ten little ladybugs sitting on a vine, along came a bird and then there were nine) and Iza promptly got up, walked around the house, and brought that book back to us. My jaw hit the floor. A lot of her increasingly evident intelligence can be attributed to the constant reading and attention that Iza is getting from her Grandma. So, I'll take one for the team for the sake of my munchkin.

That being said, my brother and best friend are flying in to spend 6 days with me over the week of my birthday (September 11th, how wonderful) and Grandma is heading back to San Jose just before then. It's going to kill us to have to put Iza into day care.

Day care sucks; I had to do it too when the Prince was a mite. On the other hand, he loved it because as an only child, it provided him with playmates. I think it's harder on the parents than on the children.

You're probably right but I just don't want to see any of her potential wasted. My mother-in-law is flabbergasted by Iza's precociousness and given that my wife has a doctorate in pharmacy and my brother-in-law is 1 year from his physics degree, she has a strong point of reference to judge from.

Given that it's a quarter of two, I'd say so!
