Yep - the "real" gas station prices north of Lake Washington (10 miles out of Seattle) are running between $4.15 & 4.20 for the cheap stuff... deisel is almost at 5.

This month is the first time since I bought my car (way back in 91) that my full service oil change was cheaper than filling my tank! Oi vay!! Good thing I only drive once or twice a week for appts and groceries... that tank should last me almost all month. Now my husband on the other hand drives his Camaro everyday... it's nearly $70 a week for him He could take the bus to work, but there is no direct route... you can't get there from here in less than an hour or transferring buses 3 times!! So much for the efficacy of public transportation

Yep. I'd have to first walk a mile to get to the bus stop...no biggy really, then take a bus to the transfer station and hop on a second bus to get to work. Kind of silly when I live 7 miles from work and right now it's still cheaper for me mpg wise when I figure out my weekly bus fare. I also know how high gas has to get for me to start that bus thing to work. Not yet, but not far away either.

Same thing here. When you consider that it takes almost an hour longer to get there by bus, and the cost of the fare... we're talking a cost of at least $24 a day... not quite worth it to save at the pump yet. I'm trying to get him to trade in the Camaro for something more efficent though... he doesn't need the chick magnet now that he's married and Seattle traffic is never clear enough to use all that V-8 horsepower anyway!!

I hear you! Cameros remind me of high school and all the hot guys who used to have them! The muscle cars just aren't practical. Of course, they're not meant to be, and so long as you can afford it, more power to ya. But if you're like most of us, well....time to let it go.

I figured the commute time and it would be about an hour, not factoring in the walk to the bus stop and back, whereas I can get to work in maybe 10-15 minutes on the backroads. So for now...it's still the way to go. Plus I try to combine my work trips with grocery shopping so that I'm not having to make trips out on the weekends. I've pretty much given weekend driving up.

Default too obvious?

"if I could figure out how to haul 150 lbs of cat litter up the 20% grade"

So...I guess I'll be the first to venture a guess...get rid of the cats?

If you're somehow attached to the creatures, it IS possible to train them to use a toilet, I've seen it done. No, they're not really happy with the setup, but then you're not really happy with the current situation either, from the sound of it.

Took a fishing trip to the U P of michigan over the weekend and when you get around the remote small towns it was $4.39 to $4.42 for reg gas.
