Question Travelling to Barrow - Need Tips!

Hi there,
I am an RN planning a trip to Fairbanks for next March, possibly early April, for a conference. I've always wanted to travel to the arctic, so Barrow would be a natural choice. I'm thinking of taking a few extra days to travel on to Barrow.
What is the weather like this time of year? Can you see the aurora? I've nearly decided to take a room at the Top of the World Hotel, because of it's proximity to the ocean...........any comments? I would love to visit a local family, and try local cuisine. Any way to plan this? How is the medical care up there? What clothing should I pack?
Sorry, lots of questions, but I'm very excited. If anyone has any questions about the Seattle area, I'd be happy to answer!

Thanks much for any help you can offer,

Terry Lee )

This tome of the year it will be around freezing and down to about zero or a little below at night. Not much chance of the Aurora but it can be seen year round up that high you might get lucky.if you want to met some locals just go over to the center or to the college around lunch time and let them know what you are looking for or thinking about getting to know some local customs.

In March it will be significantly below zero most of the time. It will also be relatively windy, so the chill factor might well be -40 to -60F in early March, moderating slighlty by the end of the month.

There is some chance of seeing Aurora in early March, though there are rarely clear skies. By April it just doesn't get dark enough.
By the 1st of April it is never darker than Astonomical Twilight, meaning it is not dark enough to see stars.

Hello CometVoyager...

Click on my name on this message, and then on the "send email" option to send me an email. Ask any immediate questions you might have, but let me know when you'll be here and for how long, and maybe what you have planned. I'll see what can be done to make sure you have a great time!

Incidentally, the middle of February is generally the coldest time of the year here; but I don't know what the long range forcast is. A good indicator though is the forcast for the next week. The warmest prediction is -10F, and the coldest is -25F. The odd thing was that no winds were mentioned for the entire week, so perhaps the average 10-12 MPH can be assumed. A week later... well, it almost almost certainly isn't going to be any warmer... :-)

But this is a very interesting time to visit here. There're no touristas!
