The ferry stops in Canadian ports, and I they get a manifest of who is on board in their waters. Don't know how that affects people with "Issues"...

The ferry from Bellingham doesn't though. Even if it did, the ferry is considered U.S. soil, so as long as they stayed on the ferry, there would be no problems. I've heard of people getting off at Prince Rupert, being refused at customs and being sent back on the ferry for the trip back to Ketchikan.

The only Canadian port is Prince Rupert. As long as you don't get off the ferry you don't have any problems. I've never seen Canadian Customs officals come on the ferry and drag someone off. That wouldn't make logical sense. The ferry terminal at Prince Rupert has a combined US-Canada checkpoint. Once you cross the threshold of either one when embarking or disembarking then you have to clear customs again if you want to get on or off.

I know that the Ferry is another way to avoid the strict gun control in Canada. Many people who ferried up with me carried both rifles and handguns to Whittier. Those who got off in Haines (and drove through Canada) had already filled out the forms. Also on the Ferry if a U.S. police officer is in uniform they travel free. The food was great and the company was fun.

If one is arrested for a DUI, but the charges are dropped by the prosecutor's office and thus there is no conviction, will that affect one's ability to enter Canada?

if you have a clean record going into canada, you won't have a problem..same as ourselves(i am canadian) going into the us borders. If you have a record, for whatever, you COULD be stopped and checked. It isn't any differant from getting from USA to Canada and vise versa.

Be sure it has been cleared from the records or recorded as dropped with no conviction. Carry paperwork to prove it!! Know someone in that situation and at the border found out it was not recorded as such and could not enter Canada. His charge was from the 1970's!!

Because I meet the criteria for entry, but I do have the dings on my record, they ask me questions, and are usually polite and friendly. (Except for this one woman from Quebec.) Then, they send me on my way.

When I brought my guns, a bunch of them came out there to admire them, talk about them, and talk about how bad the Canadian government is and how stupid it is to put the restrictions on guns they have.

But, I always have to stop and talk to them and answer questions. Every single time.

You mean that just because someone has a simple DWI in another country that you can't enter Canada? That's like 20% of the USA population that's had at least one. I've had 2 but quit drinking 7 years ago. I'd like to travel to Alaska but now I don't know if I can...

Well you can travel to Alaska via plane or taking the ferry. You can drive to Washington State and take the ferry from there.
