I just wanted to warn anyone who is driving from the lower 48 through Canada to Alaska. We just took the trip and we were welcomed into Canada and continued up to Alaska. When we came back to cross into Canada and go home they told us my boyfriend was not allowed in Canada because of minor things in the past. After a long few days figuring out what to do we decided to fly back and have our RV shipped. So...be careful. If you have ANYTHING on your record DO NOT GO INTO CANADA! They will let you in but won't let you back home! I really don't understand how they can do this if they let you into their country once but they do! I would suggest flying or taking the ferry. And by the way the Yukon is not fun to drive through anyway. It is dangerous. We saw a guy die on our way up there. If you have a perfect record and don't mind dangerous conditions go for it. Otherwise don't drive it!

I'm confused. Why did they let you in the first time?

Now you know what its like to cross into the US.

Criminal offences (like impared driving) make you inadmissable. They did you a disservice by letting you cross the first time. You need to have a pardon to be admitted. In this age of technology, the loopholes are fast disappearing.

How much did it cost to have an RV shipped?

I think the Yukon is the best part of Canada I've seen (although there are other areas I haven't seen that are probably quite good too). YMMV though, you do need to be careful wherever you go. Mind if I ask how the person died that you saw?

The Canadians are pretty careful about who they let in.

I don't recall the Yukon being dangerous in my 13 drives through it. The Yukon is one of my favorite provinces to drive through, lots of great scenery. This is something you should have thought of before your trip up. No matter how minor the past was, if it involved alcohol they won't let you in. Shows how much you planned on the trip.

It's the U.S. Customs that you must satisfy on the way back, not the Canadians.

I had a wonderful time driving throught the Yukon a few years ago. Dawson was really a memorable place to visit....looking at all the old turn-of-the-century gold mining things was great. I would go back in a heart-beat...
I agree that the Canadian customs agents can be picky. If one crossing post won't let you through, then another one might...
One can always go to Bellingham, Washington, and take the Alaska ferry...
