I won't be moving anywhere for a while, but am seriously considering Alaska as a possibility.
I hear a lot about the drunks in Alaska and honestly that doesn't bother me too much. I see drunks all the time in major cities and they rarely mess with anybody. What does bother me though are so many reports of "crazy" people up in Alaska. Is any of this true? Are there a lot of crazies in Alaska? If so, what in the world could be the reason?
*I'm considering Juneau specifically, but I hear there are no young people there, especially women, is that so? Anchorage is probably the most ideal place for a young person in Alaska, but it doesn't have the beauty of Juneau in my opinion.
Hmm. I saw your title and immediately thought "well, I see you've met my inlaws".
While the actual city of Anchorage may not be beautiful, within about 30 minutes drive in any direction you pretty much never even knew you were there. I have family in both towns, and while I don't live in AK, if I were to relo there I'd look closer to Anchorage. Family not withstanding.
Hello, you are right about the drunks, mostly natives and they are harmless. I lived in Juneau and I didn't care for it but that is just me. Anchorage is pretty, there are nice places to go to not far outside of Anchorage. I think Anchorage would be more ideal, all around. Alaska is isolated and if you are used to living in the lower 48 (I just moved out) Juneau would be very isolated. I would give Anchorage a try first and visit Juneau and see how you like it. But if you are wanting to have a greater chance at meeting women I would definitely live in Anchorage.
And whoever told you that mainly crazy people live in Alaska is full of it. There are crazies wherever you go, but most people are willing to help you out and most people are pretty friendly. There are way more aggressive people everywhere else than in Alaska. I will say there are eccentric people in Alaska, it takes certain types of people that love it enough to never leave. It was hard for me and I still think of moving back, the family and life is there, but I love living somewhere else, being able to drive to places and not have to get on a plane to get there. It is expensive to move in and out of AK, and to live there, but the quality of life there is worth it. Ok, I am going to stop babbling but if there is anything else you want to know just hit me up and you can pick my brain if you would like. Jessica

Mostly Natives? Does that make me a drunk, too? You better be careful on how you put your words out. Not all of us drink, you see a lot of drunk white people on the streets, too. Don't make the crazy people all Native people.

Not to get picky here, but she said: "Hello, you are right about the drunks, mostly natives and they are harmless."
I read that as most of the drunks are natives. That does NOT mean that most natives are drunks. Huge difference.
It's like saying "all fish swim, therefore everything that swims is a fish," which of course is not true.
