My partner at work refers to Dillingham as a quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem.

It's not that bad. It does, however, have an outrageous cost of living. Any place in the bush (i.e., off the highway system), is VERY expensive with respect to anything that cannot be reproduced locally. Food, appliances, cars, whatever.

Living quarters can be hard to come by as well. If I'm not mistaken, it's the start of the crabbing season, and that can make it tougher. (Opelio season I think).
