Sakari22;

You will fall in love with Seward the moment you arrive. In the fall the Seward area, and the Kenai Peninsula in general, is very beautiful. Snow-capped mountain peaks with brilliant red, orange, and yellow leaves on the trees mixed with the dark greens of the spruce evergreens.

Be prepared to see lots of wildlife, from moose and bears to eagles and sea otters, and of course lots of salmon. If you like small towns, Seward is a good place to be. If you like larger cities, Anchorage is only 125 miles north.

I know, i was looking everywhere for SOME info but what you gave was a great start....my hubbie called a couple of the guys in the unit but was told that they are underway so we'll have to wait till they get back to port to find out anything.
and i'll definately look into the daycare facilities.....

Well, we just found out about the move yesterday so a lot of decisions are having to be made rather quickly. I guess as soon as we can find a place to live then we'll head up....and yes, this is our first baby. A little girl is on the way. woo-hoo!!
*ha ha* i thought that the added estrogen would give ME the upperhand, but i think she'll end up being a daddy's-girl so i'm the one in trouble!!

since the initial shock of having to move while preparing for a new baby has worn off, i'm actually pretty excited. I mean, i'm a budget-queen so the cost of all this is going to drive me nuts, but the adventure i think is well worth it. rrriiiiighhht?!?!

*ha ha* i've only ever seen snow one time...when the ONE inch of it fell in Houston on Christmas eve night back in 2004. man, i was so excited....guess this will be alittle different though. i mean, i was wearing like 4 layers of clothes that night and was still cold. i tried to make a "snow angel", HA, i think it was more like a wet-grass-bodily-imprint!

Oh it will definitely be worth it. Were you able to contact the housing officer?
My two boys both served in the USCG. One was stationed in Florence, OR & the other was stationed in St. Ignace, MI.

I'll see if I can get up with my boys & ask them if there are any other resources that they may know of. Congrats on your baby girl! Have you picked out a name yet?
