Default Anchorage to Seattle Beg of October

Hi there - i have searched the posts and found some great info about doing the drive from anchorage to seattle. but i guess i was looking for some info about what it may be like at the beginning of october? and how many days would you comfortably leave yourself to enjoy the ride? is it recommended to drive in the daylight hours only? where are some good places to stop and stay? is it necessary to carry some gas with you? we're gonna be in an infiniti sedan - i forget which one... as it's my friends. should we get snow tires before heading out? flares, food, parts?
THANKS!!!

I took the Alcan in 2000- Infinity Sedan? Hummm.. Think about a broken windshield. Are you driving both ways? Ample gas stations back in 2000. I think 4 days should be plenty.

There is this place with lots of license plates from all over the world. Then there are places where you can see the Native Americans use a STICK with a hook to catch huge salmon.

We had Caribou Burgers in Tok. Whitehorse had the most agressive mosquitoes I had ever seen. Bite right through your clothes and would always attack the eyes.

Between Anchorage and Tok there is a huge Glacier range.

We hit a cow in St Georges at night so you are right. Be careful.

We took pretty much the same route and there are plenty of places to stay and enjoy on the Alcan on the way down and it took us about 5 days at a leisurely pace. Get yourself a Milepost to make sure everything will be open when you go through because some places close down at the end of the "season" - which is September a lot of the time. October *might* be a bit late, considering how cool this summer has been winter might come a bit early and making driving more difficult. The Alcan is maintained pretty well, but it only takes one storm to make things difficult for a few hours or days so plan accordingly. I wouldn't recommend driving at dawn or dusk because of critters, but if you must drive at night you should be fine as long as you're not outdistancing your headlights (i.e. speeding like a fiend) and keeping an eye out for ice patches. From my experience, once you get into BC the weather and facilities in October usually aren't as difficult to deal with.
