There's Dana Stabenow, Sue Henry, Elizabeth Scarborough [she no longer lives in Alaska, but The Unicorn Creed is one of the funniest books I ever read], Leslie Fields, Irving Warner [also no longer in Alaska], Claus-M. Naske, and there's a group on line called Alaska Sisters in Crime. Don't have the site handy, but it should be easy to find. There's another book called After the Zap that is first-class fantasy, written by one of the English profs at UA/A. And Highliners by John McClosky, I think, but the book mixes fact and fiction, and the author was a fisherman when he wrote it.

Stabenow
Dana Stabenow writes primarily Alaska-flavored mystery novels. She's pretty prolific, there's practically a whole section of her stuff at the local library.
The book by Heather Lende is good too, but definately not a comedy. It might more accurately be titled "If you died here, I'd know your name and your lifes story". The gal seems to have a LOT of energy, she's got a finger or two into practically everthing going on in the community up here.

I read Lende's book as well and really enjoyed it from cover to cover. Her book was the first book I read on personal expieriences in Alaska. The ending was somewhat sad but it was very appropriate based on what I believe she was trying to communicate to the reader!
