Wish I could remember her name, pretty sure author was female, but she was from Seward I think. Saw a mystery/history type book at a small coffee shop in Girdwood. I know this doesn't help much. Also wish I would have bought the book, bugga.

While he no longer lives in Alaska, he still has some books he wrote up here while he lived in Homer...

I also like Nick Jans' work. Google him and see what he wrote. Another good book on Alaska is anything by James Barker, he's a photographer and has a few books out.

OK, I was partly wrong, her name is Heather Lende but she is from Haines. And it is also not a mystery, it's a comedy called "If you lived here, I'd know your name". It ju8st looked good to me.

Ahh, the wonders of Google.

I just read a book called Artic Homesteading by Norma Cobb. According to the notes in the book she still lives there up (Minook Valley ares the book says) and has a place called Lost Creek Ranch

Ahh, the wonders of Google.
I know the author personally, and she is a very nice person.

I have heard good things about the book.

I've have Lende's book, and I liked it--although I wouldn't really call it a comedy.
Nick Jans is very good, non-fiction.
And of course Jeff King has his book out, "Cold Hands Warm Heart"...loved it.
Stephen King was in Southeast four or five summers back---"studying bears", from what I heard. Will be interesting to see if he ever publishes anything from it....

Do writing about Alaska, and about dogs, count? Mary Shields, the first woman to finish the Iditarod, lives and writes just outside Fairbanks with her team.
