Default Fishing Report

It's not good out there, from all reports so far here in SE. Salmon have come into N. end of POW a bit, I heard this weekend. Anyone know more details about that rumor?

Bad news for King subsistence users too, according to KTN Daily.

Anyone know the poop on the season or see any areas where it looks really good?
My commercial buddies are supposed to head out this week to give it a go but they're not real optimistic.

Even bottom fishing has not been all that great; halibut few and far between, according to most folks and for my own experience so far this summer. Thoughts? Advice? Commiseration?

I am not sure about fishing in SE Alaska, but fishing here in Homer has been good to us. We were there for 3 days and limited out on halibut all 3 days. Ended up bringing home about 360 pounds of fish. If I hear anything concerning the fishing in SE, I will let you know.

I'm heading to Homer and Seldovia for the 4th. We're gonna have a couple boats and a handfull of co-workers and will do a small fishing contest between us. Halibut fishing has been great around Ninilchik for a month or more.

All I can speak of is the Sand Point section of Area M. Base price for Reds is 70 cents. Additional for dock delivery, refrigeration, etc. But 70 cents!!!

Trident has this spineless town over a barrel, and that's a fact!

Due to fuel costs, the large seiners are not traveling the 200 miles to the western capes. Thus, they fish the local capes, heads, and points 24 hours until the opening is closed, and allegedly nothing or little gets through to the setnetters. Fishers at the most productive sites claim to be doing poorly as a result.

Without hanging around in the Harbor House, I couldn't say if the seiners are doing well, but those double-wides better catch a bunch! Gawd-amighty, they must suck diesel.

All in all, it's not impressive out here. If you like, I could wander down and listen to the BS in the Harbor House, but I got tired of that 15 years ago.

But, for you Alaska Girl, I would willingly suffer even that, being so saintly as I am ....
