If we had a big ol tall bridge...we'd have a place to bungee or base jump. I say build it. I'd much rather spend my tax money on that than the war(s).

That works out to about $2,326 for every person in the country. Too bad we can't choose how we'd like our tax dollars to be spent -- or, more accurately, our future tax dollars.

I'll bet very few would choose to spend money destroying and then rebuilding an oil-rich country -- and killing lots of innocent people in the process. But our law-makers know what's best for us.

You have the audacity to quibble about $398 million, which also includes the $1.2 billion Knik Arm bridge, while $27 BILLION was spent on pork that same year, mostly in your Blue Ridge states, like Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee? Talk about misplaced priorities. That is like complaining about a lost dollar while being robbed of $50.

Try cleaning up your own house before criticizing others. You might not be considered such an ignorant hypocrite that way.

With less exceptions than I can count on my fingers, our "leaders" in congress should be thrown out of office and into jail for their corruption, wastefulness, trashing of the Constitution and worse...maybe the process can start with my openly socialist senator...

No arguments here. I have heard estimates that up to 3 trillion will be spent on this war before we're through, factoring in the continuing medical care for our wounded troopers. Ill-advised and unfounded never makes for a great war...

I'm sorry. According to the latest figures I could find little ol' Alaska, with a population of some 670,000 people ranks numero uno in earmarks per capita. $490 dollars were received per capita. For every dollar gained through pork, Alaska paid in $16. The average for all states was $259 paid in for every pork dollar received. Bringing Home The Bacon - Forbes.com

Now, according to the above link, North Carolina is tied for last in earmarks per capita with four other states.

According to the link above, which is for 2008, only 8 states received less per capita than NC. North Carolina is the only state that I can speak for.

Please, these posts aren't meant to offend anyone. I understand that you are as fiercely proud of your state as I am of mine, with good reason. However, more heat will continue to come down on Don Young, as it should. In no way does his name need to be associated with the Republican party. He is under investigation by the FBI for taking bribes; He is also under investigation for altering an earmark (after the bill had passed the house and senate) to benefit a campaign contributor.

I don't care whether you care or not. Young will be reigned in whether you like it or not. Palin squirmed over the bridge, and with more visibility I dare say fewer pork dollars will come your way. You guys can do whatever you want; don't spend my dollars or my grandkids.
