apartments in Juneau
We've been looking at apartments in the local paper online and Craig's List but aren't having much luck finding a small place for my husband and I. We are trying to avoid having to stay in a hotel any longer than we have to. Anyone have any suggestions? I know the risks of getting a pace sight unseen, but if anyone can offer ideas of where to look for a place that would be appreciated. Thanks

because right now, in the middle of summer, you'r not gonna find one that way. here in junuea, it's face to face when renting. but don't listen to me, I just live here. This fall it's a lot easier, but you gotta be here.
.
Oh hell, ********** forum, I'm tired of trying to help and tell the truth, there's plenty of "land of milk and honey" members here who will fill your ear with BS.

I agree with DannyL. In the summertime, Juneau fills up with people - mainly tourists, but to a lesser extent, seasonal employees from the gov't and elsewhere. (a lot of the downtown area runs off the cruise ship industry, and those businesses hire seasonals, as well).
When I lived in Juneau, I had a colleguae who came up from the lower-48 and found a basement room in a house to rent just as DannyL described: face to face, knocking on doors based on local ads and word of mouth (to be honest, I really wouldn't rent in too many places in Juneau WITHOUT seeing it first, anyway).
You'd be surprised how many places will be available when the cruise ships leave and take the sun with them.

It's basically scan the paper daily. Places pop up and are gone that day. I think your best bet is to look when you get here. Check with Realtors too, sometimes they deal with rentals.

ok, I apologize to everyone for my previous rant.
Look, getting a place here is not like you are used too. There are not 15 differnet apt. complexes here competing for your business.
Google "extended stay on juneau" and you will probably get serveral hits. I know of serveral. Will cost between 900 to 1200 a month, everything paid. They are like simple efficincy apts.
When here start looking. Prepare to be dissapointed, but you will find something.
I could steer you too some if you wish.
It's just the way it is.

Welcome to Juneau. As I said before, check with the various Realtors to see what they handle. Check the mall and grocery store bulletin boards as they sometimes have rentals posted. Good luck in your search.
