Moving Nome Alaska
I am thinking of taking a position in Nome and will be needing a rental or sharing accomodation upon arrival. I have always wanted to move to Alaska and now I have a good chance of fulfilling the dream. I hear from the HR dept of my prospective employer that the cost of living is high including rental property. I will be living alone so I dont need a big place, just a one bedroom or studio will be sufficiant. Possibly a roomate to share expenses for a time until I settle in and can find something of my own unless of course the sharing accomodation is working well and presents/maintains a win-win situation for both parties.
Thank you for any input you may be able to provide.
Victoria

I'd say go for it! I would love to move to Alaska. If you can stand the cold, and it will get really cold in Nome, take the job www.city-data.com I really like this websit when I look up different cities. They have some good stuff for Nome too.
Good luck

Oh Nome
Nome is an interesting place, to say the least. It is not all that the pictures make is out to be. I go to Nome at least once every year for about 4 days and I have lived in much more rural places then Nome and 4 days is about all that I really need or want of Nome. It has some great qualities in that it has such a rich history and is so different than other places. It also has some real down-falls the biggest being the alcohol and drug abuse you seen there. Nome has a ton of bars on main street and alcohol abuse runs big. You see a lot of "sad" (for lack of a better word) people on the street. The houses are very close in Nome and they are not going to be fancy. There are not really any (or just a few) apartments like you are explaining or looking for. So most likley you will end up renting a room from someones house. The cost of living in rural alaska is high regardless of where you live. You're nearest large towns to get a lot of supplies shipped in are Unalakleet and Fairbanks. Remember also to get to the lower 48 or even Anchorage will be expensive. Nome can also be cold but it is really not to bad. Otherwise, enjoy and I wish you the best.

Hello, everyone! My name is Oleg. I'm from Russia. I live in Chukotka, which close Alaska across the Bering strait. The Nature of these two unique and wonderful regions of the world is quite similar. I work in the field of Environmental Control of State. I had visited Nome on my way to Anchorage in 2008. Sorry for my English … .
Landing to Nome.
