I was just thinking last night that I feel much closer to nature when I'm in Oregon than when I'm in AK. Winter sports et al really don't interest me, and from my place in SE, I can't look in any direction without seeing another clearcut.

The Alaska range is of course gorgeous, and I used to think that the Copper River area was the lovliest place on earth...until recently when I saw Mt. Hood out an airplane window.

I like living in the mountains; you can't live in the mountains in AK.

Some people actually get S.A.D. from too many blue sky days...my sister is one of them. I think I was too at one time but the last couple of years it's been the opposite. I won't do another winter in Alaska, ever.

Wasilla doesn't appeal to me, either. But it's not representative of the rest of the state.

The job market is getting tough up here. I recommend searching for jobs online and going from there before deciding to come up. Juneau is a nice town. It's like an island since the only way here is by plane or boat. Being the state capital we have a couple stores (Home Depot, Walmart, Fred Meyers) and a hospital, but it's VERY small town here. Places like Ketchikan people come by ferry to get supplies they need from here.
