When in the mid West, people think of tornadoes. But in Ca. people think of EARTHQUAKES. It was true today. The earth did not open up but, it was a bit of a jolt being that it only 20 or so miles from my place here in Orange.
I think it was 'Dream' who has mentioned earthquakes in Juneau. Had Alaska ever have a major shaker within the land mass? I've heard of major offshore ones but not of any major ones in recent years.

There was a magnitude 7.9 Denali Fault earthquake on November 3, 2002 across the mid part of Alaska. They finally got done repaving the road in the past few years where the road got mangled on the Tok Cut-off.

On Good Friday, March 27, 1964, there was an 8.4 quake in Anchorage that was devastating.

The Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964
The news have since downgraded the magnitude to 5.4. Still, it was a good, stiff shaker. And the prognosticators are projecting the "big one" to come 'soon' to anytime in the near future. By that time, hopefully, I will have moved to your direction and shake in my boots there instead of here.

When the "big one" hits, that'll shift southern California to Alaska and we can annex them. Just ride it out Rammer.

Good Lord please don't annex Southern California. Let them float over to China or someplace like that.

A remember several years ago the large earthquake in CA. I was a Sergeant in the Air Force back then, and this very young Airman, right out of basic training, tells me "Sergeant Smith, that earthquake was big. Did you know that they use the rectum scale in CA?" I almost fell on the ground in laughter

I guess we all have memories of our military days. I, too, was Air Force, but before the Korean conflict of the early 50s. We were issued ODs instead of the AF blues. I remember being issued a weapon to guard the railroad track cross road when that war broke out. We were to challenge all who came near there. It was really quite comical. Naturally, they did not issue us ammo. Then, the brass would send some people out to test us.
