The -48 is making me freakin' ill
Don't get me wrong, I love my little town and always will but I am so sick of this lower 48 bs that I could puke. I miss being able to leave the keys in my ignition all the time because there isn't anyone brave enough on POW to swipe my truck

I love Portland. I could live there without a truck.

Kind of a lack of self reliance. There are incredible berry bushes less than a block from my house; I could pick enough of them to keep me in daiquiris for years. But hardly anyone picks these berries anymore and yet the same sort of berries imported from Cali are selling for four bucks for a little box at the local store. And they serve farmed salmon in the so called gourmet restaurants here.

Oh Met, if you were here in Juneau, you'd yell at me...
I violated your little rule thingy. When I was down at the stream watching the salmon run, there was this one that was stuck on a sandbar. It kept flopping and flopping, but it was high and dry. Finally, I couldn't watch anymore, I kicked off my shoes, threw off coat, tied up the dog, and jumped in, picked it up and tossed it back into the water. I had visions of you tisk tisking me, but the look it gave me for a split second before it swam away was totally worth it.
