Default Best place and time to visit Alaska!

If you desire to visit Alaska, the best way is to take the "inside passage cruise" in the summer months. Southeast Alaska is alot like Bristish Colombia and Seattle. The rain is good for your skin and hair. When the sun is out, it is beautiful!

You only see a small part of Alaska, the one you see on tv. There are other ways to see Alaska. Fly to Anchorage and rent a car/RV and go on your own.

Yes. And another non-TV Alaska is to fly to Fairbanks. There's an entire life and country up in the interior that is completely different from anywhere else in Alaska.

Agree with Warpman.

The best way to see Alaska is to fly to Anchorage, rent a RV, and spend two or three weeks looking around. The RV will be expensive, but since you can cook your food and sleep in it, that's money you don't spend on lodging and restaurants. You will have to find a place to hook-up to empty the "potty pot," and to add water to the tank, as well as to buy fuel. You can buy foods at the local supermarkets, and maybe buy a cheap and portable BBQ grill, etc.

Drive the Seward/Sterling Highway out to Homer, or to Seward, and then turn around and drive the Parks to Eagle River. From there, drive the Glenn Highway to Glennallen. From Glennallen, drive South to Valdez on the Richardson, turn around, and drive the Richardson around Delta Junction, and to Fairbanks. Finally drive the Parks to Anchorage, and stop at Denali.

And don't forget to drive the Denali Highway from Paxon to Cantwell. It's a gravel road (part of the way), but very scenic. If you like to take photos, and the weather is good, you can't beat the Richardson around Summit Lake, or down to Valdez. The Denali is very scenic, too, as well as the Gleen.

Some of the things you can see along the Richardson (when the weather is good, of course):

I would say to visit McCarthy, Homer, Seward, Denali NP, and areas around Anchorage.

Ray can you post some higher resolution pics? I really like what you shoot, but when I try to set them as desktop backgrounds they come out all blurry.
