Nah, it was close to 30 years ago, and she did it mostly for the fun of it. But as I said earlier, the bears on the main island do have a lot of respect for the buffalo - they'll go after deer and cattle, though the Scottish Highlanders were pretty tough, too, but they leave the buffalo alone.

Yeah I'm sure even a bear would learn after being sliced open from the long horns of a highland steer...I love those bovine, I hope to get some in a few years.

They were neat! There were quite a lot of them when I got there in '69, it was pretty much all open range then. I managed to get a hide from one, long reddish hair, and some Coastie refused to believe it came from anything but a bear! He said 'You cain't fool me, Ah know a b'ar hide when Ah see one.'
