Default Thorne Bay

I am thinking of visiting Thorne Bay. Can anyone give me some information about this Alaskan community? I am looking for any information. How many grocery stores, what is the price of gas, what do people do for recreation, what kind of businesses are in the area, what are the Churches like, etc.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Default Thorne Bay returns

I forgot to say it was OK to email me regarding any info on Thorne Bay. I see that people have looked at my previous posting but I have received no responses. I can't believe that there is no opinion out there on Thorne Bay, AK or on the Prince of Wales Island community. Come on Prince of Walers, this is the time to let the world know what a great place you have there! or to tell everyone STAY AWAY!

My email address is shamrock999@juno.com

Waiting to hear from you

I lived in Thorne Bay for about 2 years, it is a nice small town. I heard they paved the roads their now and that has made it a lot nicer. It is very pretty there and people are friendly.

There is one grocery store there, it is a pretty nice one but of course groceries in AK are expensive so be prepared. Gas prices are high right now, my family lives in Coffman Cove and last I heard it was $3.15 a gallon. The last time I was in Thorne Bay there were only 3 churches, one was Baptist, another non denominational and then Catholic, but I think the Catholic church only met once a month. The people are very friendly. I am not too sure what people are doing for work there now, when we lived there it was logging but that has gone down hill. For recreation there is a lot of fishing, hunting, hiking, camping. I haven't been to Thorne Bay in a long time so I am not too sure what kinds of businesses are there now. Have fun!

In 1994 I lived near Hollis on P.O.W. Island... i have visited Thorne bay several times... It is a VERY scenic and beautiful area! VERY cold and icy in the winter but sunny and gorgeous in summer and fall... Very small but very clean and a community with much pride...

Smile Thorne Bay

I lived on P.O.W. island about 12 years ago...

I was about 6 miles from Jollis (the ferry landing)...

I made several trips to Thorne Bay.. Thorne Bay is one of those AMAZING scenic Alaska areas! Icy, snowy in the winter and sunny and pretty in the summertime and fall...

A great new school building and a friendly feel of a community with lots of pride in their location...

I'd move Eric
