Wood stoves & heavy lumbar
Well you Alaskans know that we romatize about living somewhat remotely like the old sourdoughs, so here is a question. What's your recommendations for a efficient wood stove or heater? Next question is kind of stupic, but I've just got to think there are others with similar thoughts. What areas or regions have heavy timber, where you could build your own log cabin from native materials. I've seen tons of sites, but the tapper on some of the nothern evergreens is excessive in my opinion. Now if you're really bored, have any suggestions where you could live off grid, yet still be able to communte to a town for supplies without having to use a float plane. I see lots of remote land, real cheap, but it would be too difficult to get supplies in and out. I'm also leary of what they call snowmobile or ATV access.

I'm sure there are others...but I used an earthsove for a few years and it worked great. Brick lined and would burn all night long.

Rance thanks for the response. I was just reading the other post about what land goes for in some parts of Alaska. You guys have seen it all before, but there are many of us who would like to live somewhat remote and scan all the State's land sales and the remote property lists. Seems real cheap, but defenitely out in the sticks. Which is OK, still have this crazy dream that someday, I'll have a remote cabin off grid, and only come to town via boat, ATV or snowmobile to pick up supplies. I'm still curious as to what regions or below what latitude have decent lumbar stands. Anyway, great site and I really enjoy reading it everyday.
