I guess one of the crews saw the lights this morning and it just cleared up tonight and got real cold so there is a good chance for them tonight. First time I haven't brought my camera to the slope in about a year. Go figure.

Me too. I can see the moon out the window...and didn't bring a camera! And it's showing moderate right now!

AURORA WATCH: A solar wind stream is heading for Earth and it could spark geomagnetic storms around the arctic circle when it arrives on Dec. 11th. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

For those of you that are close the the North Slope it's pretty clear here and you'll probably have a good chance tonight.

Well, I made it home and with a true appreciation for the beauty that is Alaska. I vacationed with my mother, as the spouse thought it was too cold! Mom and I made it to Fairbanks late, by 3 hours, which ruined our plans for Ice Museum and Dog Sledding at Chena. We learned quickly that plans are merely an idea, not the stone set agenda we live by in the lower 48. We were lucky enough to see the lights from Chena Hot Springs Thursday the 4th, although very active, they were partially covered by clouds. There was no time to photograph them, but it thrilled me to see them!
The next two days were socked in cloud cover, so much that we could not even go on our flightseeing trip to Coldfoot. We instead went on a wonderful, but very long van trip to the Arctic Circle. Finally on Sunday, we were given a break; CLEAR SKIES! I had been talking with the lovely gentleman from the Aurora Borealis Lodge up on Cleary Summit. He was very flexible with our plans and the weather, and we went to their lodge on Sunday evening. They picked up us at 10 pm, with a pair of Japanese sisters, and another Japanese lady from New York. They were adorable, and we had a wonderful time. I began to worry the lights would not show themselves, but around midnight, they appeared. Although they were not as active as Thursday, they were there, and I am now HOOKED! We got some photos, and once ready, I will post them. I want to thank you all again for the information, you made the difference in my short but unforgettable vacation. I can't wait to go again!
