I've sat and listend to them just north of Fairbanks when I was in the military. Yes they crackle like rice crispies.

I hear them too, but the husband states I am hearing things...he cannot hear them. To me it is a cross between Rice Krispies and a whisper....a sound unto its own.

This is perplexing....I've never seen this before. Alaska is covered in white. However, it is raining. Again. I cannot check the sky.
