I thought so. I'm actually from the Pittsburgh area but I spent a few years living in Bedford.

What exactly does constitute a neighbor in Alaska? 1 mile, 20 miles? Can see their house, a house is over the mountain, must be in the same valley? a day or less on a horse? 15 minutes or less on a snow machine?

Oh, I would say probably neighboring towns Definately wouldn't want to be so close to people you can see their house!

Thanks for the kind wishes! I can tell you this much.. Moving to Alaska is not like moving to the town down the road! My wife has told me, after planning this move, that they will bury her in Alaskan soil.. She wasn't joking..
Let the games begin! We will post pictures of the trip as when we can!
And... if you are in a relationship and moving with that person I would strongly suggest yoga, meditation etc.. That way, you will still be together when you get there...

Hi Warpt!
Yep - we're driving from PA to Bellingham - then ferry to Haines - then driving from Haines to Anchorage.
I'm so excited to clean out the car and get it packed with goodies.....but we still have a few days of saying good-bye to people here this week.
I even got our motel reservations for Haines, as the nice lady there reminded me its going to be "ferry monday" so I guess they tend to fill up.
The doggie will need monday evening to get her feet back on the ground after being in the vehicle for days......

Sweet. I didn't make a drive this year due to all the crazy prices along the system. But I'm flying into Anchorage again on the 22nd for a week and a half with a couple road trips up to Fairbanks and back, can't wait. Best of luck to you! Remember, when the road starts a wobbling, pull over and take a break!
