Bring us your huddled masses. Then sell us your cars, trucks and other household goods at a quarter of the cost...so you can leave!
Hmmmm...might be time to open a pawn shop!

My bf and I brought up the discussion of where we want to live just recently and are making the steps toward moving to AK ourselves next summer or spring of 09..didn't know there were so many others!!

I wonder if these folks even remotely investigated the cost of moving to Alaska let alone the cost of getting home if they don't like it..

I hope not. I'm going to get rich off the mass amounts of things they drag up here and need to sell off to leave. Not sure what I'll do with all my money. Maybe build a winter home in Sweden or something! Or land. I'll buy lot's of land and become an Alaskan land baron. Then I can put in trailer parks and make even more money renting to the huddled masses! Sweet!

Probably not. Bunch of witless numbskulls, for the most part. Might be a few who'll make it and like it in spite of everything, though. I mean, I went there to cook for one summer and it took over 30 years before I finally had to leave and there was no choice about that. But I didn't go in the first place looking for pie in the sky.

It's not full of people looking to get money for nothing! And it's an absolutely beautiful country. Very similar to Alaska. When I'm standing in Sweden...I am just amazed at being half way around the planet from home! That just amazes me. Not to mention the lady that loves me is from there!

Or to run away from something. From my perspective it seems like a nice place to live.

I wouldn't worry too much about the idiot influx. Alaska will weed out those who can't make it. High dollar gas, grocieries, etc will turn people off if the winters don't. And the "can do" attitude and "pick yourself up by your bootstraps" will weed out the weaklings as well. Alaska doesn't seem to be top on the list for "giving out free money." You have to work for your PDF. I don't know about state welfare, but I'm sure it's safe to say there are other states in the -48 that would be more "accomodating." You'll still get knuckleheads, but....I don't know, maybe the bears will sort that out.
