where is the most beautiful place to summer in alaska?
We want to spend august 09 in alaska with our three kids. We are interested in renting a house or cabin. Can anyone give us their opinion on where the most beautiful town or place would be. We would like a small town with a store and some ammenities. We would like our children to experience something different from Las Vegas. My husband loves to fish! I love to can food and sew. We would like to get back to nature. We kind of have our hearts set on a mountain town. The ones where the mountains meet the lakes and waters. Thanx in advance.

Depends on who you are and where you live. I love SW, I love SE. Kodiak and Kenai are gorgeous, Pribolofs in summer can't be beat. I'm SO conflicted.

I was going to mention Ketchikan but everything there is booked up for the next 2 years. Visitors are only allowed in on cruise ships. Intinerants are allowed only if they have sufficent funds and a round trip ferry ticket. Currently temporary and permanent residents are only being considered on a replacement basis. If 5 people move out 5 people can move in. The real difficulty is that you must get a relocation recommend from the residents that you are replacing. It's a royal pain in the arse.

Yeah, I agree that SE is absolutely awesome in the summer. Look into the forest service cabins.

Ketchikan reminds me of Maine... Homer Spit has some beautiful scenery & The Salty Dawg.
