Default Speaking of History...

I'd like to bolster my knowledge of Alaskan history. To do so I'd like some recommendations for books on the history of Alaska. If you have other recommendations for different cultural aspects or for the different geologies of the state I'd be interested in those as well.

Almost anything by Claus-M Naske, in particular Alaska, a History of the 49th State. There are- or were - gazillions of books, jounals mostly, by those who homesteaded between the 1930s up until statehood, with the numbers increasing radically following WW II.

Chris, there's a book entitled The Day When the Trees Bent to The Ground or something similar...too lazy to check the author, but it is a collection of stories about the '64 earthquake by some residents of Anchorage. Fairly interesting to read.

I second the Claus Naske books. They are a good overview of Alaska History. They are used as text books at UAF.

Then, if you can grab any of the Alaska geographic books do so.
