Well it would get him some black fingers and toes for awhile until they fell off. Maybe even an ear or nose...

It'd lighten the load I guess.

I'll bet the emergency kit has only a bottle of Starbucks Frapuccino and a corkscrew.

We don't have to know you personally. We know Alaska, and how it eats up the ignorant and those who refuse to take advice seriously. And people who are well prepared, know what they are doing, and still get into trouble.

I have a friend in Anchorage who lost a family member during WW II, flying over the mountains in a military plane - not Denali, by the way. They knew approximately where the plane crashed, but it wasn't actually found until about 2000, nearly 60 years later. Do you really think one human body getting into trouble will be easier to find than an airplane with a full crew on board?

No...you aren't ready. Not even close. I've been to Silverton, Durango, Ouray, - Jeep trails, hiking, etc...and none of that - NONE of what you have done compares to Denali. Look at the panorama I just posted in the photos section. Look at the glaciers. Look at the foothills. This isn't the Rockies, lad.
Did you even read the links I posted?? Study the bloody thing...supplies, clothing, regs... I am not your mum, I am not telling you you cannot do this...but for hell's sake, do the homework.

Heck, hoss, I came up with only half that list because I have forgotten so much of my survival lore that I figure myself as a cheechako in the Bush. I MIGHT survive if things got hairy. But I figure my odds, with my experience to be 50-50, because I haven't done it in so long, and at 54, I'm not the young buck I used to be.

My experiences are 20 years behind, and mostly were geared to the desert and jungle. Much easier to survive either of those than the wilderness surrounding Denali in winter. My list of items was incomplete, and after reading the pamphlet, short on time-based necessities like food and fuel.

You hear nothing but obstacles, when we are trying to help you survive. There are pilots and nurses, engineers and hikers all through this thread. They have attempted to give you advice, and you respond that you know better. You may have packed a lifetime in the 17 years you have in the lower 48, but you have no skills that will translate completely to what you will face here. They are going to be incomplete, or completely unsuitable.

The wildlife I see in Anchorage would thrill you, but it still can kill you. 3 bear maulings in Anchorage last year alone. Moose prevent kids from going to school in this city, if they are blocking their egress from their homes. This is a city, you know, buses, malls, Starbucks, cops, grocery stores. People still die from nature's whim in town. They die from exposure, too. This is the BANANA BELT. Warm, wet. Nothing like the interior.

We are trying to help you, and you come back with sarcasm, or completely disregard our advice.

READ THE PAMPHLET. Please.
