I too go about 70mph. It really doesn't seem to take long to reach Willow...40-45 minutes, perhaps? Talkeetna is a wee bit further. You see the sign 'Welcome to Willow' and nothing but trees after. Then a gas station, then nothing...then the clinic. And out in the midst of trees, a coffee kiosk. It really doesn't have that 'town' feel. The properties we looked at when we were here in April were beautiful. The cabin I found I absolutely loved, but I was the only one. It would've been a labour of love to work on this place and funds would've had to be fairly unlimited....but the history of it was incredible.

28 minutes according to the map. Well, that's about right, if traffic isn't heavy. I inevitably get stuck behind a Winnebago.

I remember you telling about that place when we were at your place for the BBQ. Grill God - see what you've put this woman thru lol
We actually want to buy alot of land not only for us but because we want to be able to build our kids a home there as well if they so desired.

Funny thing, Miriam drove from Willow to just outside Cantwell, we got stuck behind a sedan and refused to pass it. It pulled off at the Talkeetna cut-off and she did good from then on.

Ehm..no. I won't even do that in the rain. My son fears I will 'hydrofoil'. His word, not mine own...he meant hydroplaning but came up with 'hydrofoil'.

Stephanie..have you ever been through Willow? The reason I ask is because I wasn't exactly certain what you were wanting. I stopped and shot three images for you as far as businesses are concerned...
The sign says the 'heart of Willow'. In this building that the semi was so kind to block, there is a credit union, a clinic, a therapeutic massage place, and a bible fellowship. A mile or so prior to this was a gas station and a log cabin 'jail'.
Next to this is the post office:
And next to the post office is this convenience store/'strip-mall':
I didn't stop to shoot the community center/library, a hotel/restaurant, or the Willow Creek Resort. There is also the Willow Airport across the highway from the resort. All this, I suppose, could be deemed the 'downtown' of Willow.
I was losing time as it was...so if you'd like photos of these others, I'll go back. If there is a specific place, dm the directions/info to me and I'll find it. There are a few lakes - Nancy Lake, Long Lake with housing around them, but most housing is off the highway obscured by trees. Residential 'streets' seem to be entirely made up of dirt roads.

You are such a sweet heart...thank you. No I have never been there...yet. You do not need to go back especially for me. However next time you do go if you want to take some more pics that will not be turned down.
So a log cabin jail...how Alaskan!!
Did you have a nice trip? What did you head out for? Did you see I finally figured out how to post pics on the AK Photo's thread? It will give you idea about my place and maybe a useful background for pictures.
Oh what a day!
