Default Willow/Talkeetna area

I have not been there just yet but was wondering what, those of you who have, thought of the place?
I have heard there are quite a few characters there but that land is cheaper, groceries are more etc.

Stephanie...We love the area and would love to relocate there eventually. Willow is beautiful, there isn't a central town core, per se. If nothing else, we are wishing to purchase land up there and build a cabin.
One thing to keep in mind...natural gas is not available there and heating oil costs are costly.

Hey Cori, I had been thinking the same thing about either Willow or Talkeetna and how pretty they are. I love the idea of a small town...and no Wasilla does not count as a small town more like a little city. I actually just bought a book the other day with Log home designs. We are looking at purchasing about 100 acres or more in the future. If you have any photos of the area I would LOVE to see them!!!

Keep in mind that Talkeetna is very far from a right wing community.

Groceries aren't cheaper; you have to drive to Wasilla to buy them. The local stores stock only the basics and will make you pay for them.

There are some good land deals available due to Californians moving up after watching the Discovery Channel and not being able to hack it. Some of their places are going for reasonable amounts.

That's why I only do "hit and run" visits.

I like Talkeetna, but I don't stay there long.

Wow thanks for the good info. I don't mind living around those who have opposing political views. I am an independant but more of a republican this election.
Cori if you go please attach your new fancy camera to your wrist...lol I can't wait to see what your eye catches
I didn't know one would have to come to Wasilla to buy their groceries. About how far away from here (Wasilla) is it as in driving time?

Might be shorter time, depending on how heavy your foot is. I normally go 70mph on a 65, everyone passes me though. I had one speeding ticket in my life and don't want another one. 5mph over is my limit.
