So? There still isn't a person brave enough on POW to mess with my truck. I don't even take the keys out of the ignition when I'm off the island.

My point is...is that there is definitely dysfunction and crime all over the state. But it isn't as random as it is in the lower 48.

Illegitimis nil carborundum - in effect means 'don't let the bastards bring you down'.

Inter alia - 'among other things'.

I am pretty ambivalent about the woman myself. I have always counted myself amongst the moderate Republicans - leaning WAY towards pro-choice, opposed to the war in Iraq, and having a clear idea that separation of church and state was pretty much what our founding fathers had in mind. My opinions lately have counted for little in the Republican party agenda. But I also have severe heartache with the Democratic side of the house. Their agenda sickened me as a young military guy in the '70's. I didn't need their abuse. I also think that Diane Feinstein is a weasel in a skirt. (Mayor of San Fran back when and before that was known to comment about marines and sailors ticking off the radical elements by parading around in our uniforms). But I digress. Neither party is saying the things that I want to hear.

I fear for my sons, coming into adulthood with a rudderless nation, one that seems to lack vision. Eisenhower built the national highways, enabling freight to cross the nation in more diverse ways. Kennedy called for people to serve as ambassadors of peace (yes, I know about VietNam!, but it provided vision that persists today in the Peace Corps). Johnson designing the Civil Rights legislation and Medicaid for the poor. Vision is needed, and not a retrenchment to old tired positions. My Republicans need to embrace things like stem cell research. The Democrats need to come into a real world, one not inhabited by fluffy bunnies, but by real and present enemies.

Each side has found itself involved in trench warfare, the trenches being the positions taken by their predecessors and none seem willling to take a look a across the lines to see whether a truce can be declared.

I miss the actual rhetoric (which might ONLY be rhetoric) of debates without recrimination the following day. Let the chips fall where they may, personal attacks were considered taboo until Nixon and his crew made them passe (missing an accent mark there).

Fie, I say, fie and a plague on both your houses. Capulets and Montagues had better sense if you ask me.

Just my humble opinion.
