Depending on what you're used to, it can seem like a jail sentence. But that could be said for many isolated communities here. I've known people who lived in Juneau, which is going to be your closest "big city," who thought it was a jail sentence while they lived here.

Not a bad idea. Turn Juneau into a prison and we won't have to ship the convicted politicians to Arizona.

I think I'm ready for it. I lived in a tiny village on the Navajo rez for almost a year but I was able to drive for a few hours and get to 'civilization'. I've done a fair bit of research on Angoon but I know that I'll never be 100% prepared for life on an island in Alaska. My homebase is North Dakota so I don't think the weather is gonna be too much of a shock. It was raining/snowing here yesterday with winds of 30+ and all I could think was, 'It's gonna be windier and wetter in Angoon.'

The hard part will be driving to "civilization." You can't do that. your options are a float plane or ferry trip to Juneau, Sitka or another small island community. 3 to 6 months is not that long, so you should be OK. You'll either love it or hate it, but it will be an experience you'll never forget.

I can't wait for you to get there!! It will be nice seeing another part of this huge state, at least through someone elses eyes for the time being. I would really like to spend some time in SE Alaska...While here though, you should travel some of the other parts of the state, who knows...you might decide to stay!!! And for what it's worth, I like the fact that someone said they did some research on Alaska politics rather than just assume or look for gossip headlines, Alaska has issues just as the rest do..Ignorance is not specific to the -48 either. This state is huge and very diverse with only a small population in comparison.

I heard on interesting commentary on the local radio on the way home a little while ago today, I think it was Tom Casey, but not sure and really makes no difference...

What he basically said was how people feel about politics, whether liberal or conservative, is not based on race or sex, but ideology....that if Obama would have been on the republican ticket running as a conservative, the same people that are ecstatic and touting his capability now, would have been the people bashing him on the republican ticket....

What a concept...

Too bad the mental midgets in the media aren't able to comprehend that concept. They claim that if you don't embrace Obama's marxist ideology and vote for him, then you must be a "racist." Naturally, all the Obamabot kool-aid drinkers agree with that stupidity. Just ask Siouxcia.

Glitch, it's apparent that you drink your own brand of kool-aid. The difference between yours and mine is my kool-aid comes in a variety of flavors while yours is colorless and tasteless. I bet the theme song of your kool-aid commercial is 'If I Only had a Brain'.
