I beg to disagree. Folks in Alaska are extraordinary people! I admire you for it. Most of us in the lower 48 wouldn't know how to live in Alaska, and we're so soft and spoiled we wouldn't want to learn how.

The OP's post while interesting isn't unique. Do a little research and you'll find that most every other governor in the United States will fight the expansion of tribal sovereignty within their own boundaries. It takes the states ability to govern their lands away from them and places it in the hands of another party.

Most of these issues are addressed by a compromise but many end up in court. The Governor would be derelict in their duties if they didn't stand up for their State's rights as well.

Lastly to the OP if your going to copy and past stuff please reference it back to it's original source. I'm still trying to track down the source but it's been posted all over the web.

I see him referred to as 1/8th. However, that means almost nothing. The only thing it does specifically mean is that those who claim he is a "member of the tribe", are necessarily wrong. Unless he is 1/4 or more he is not entitled to any tribal benefits.

But alas, none of that addresses the important question of whether he was raised to respect Yup'ik cultural values, or for that matter if he even has any idea what they are. That would be important, because simply put, if he doesn't know what Yup'ik means, he's just another non-Yup'ik. He would then of course have all the typical "rights of passage" claimed by anyone born and raised in Bush Alaska. Those are many, but they are not the same thing as being an Alaska Native.

Regardless, Todd Palin being part Yup'ik does not mean anything in regard to Sarah Palin's anti-Native history as Governor, nor her confusion as both a governor and as a mayor between her duties as a government official and her private life.

Not being from Alaska this didn't enter into my decision at all, but having her on the ticket does help. I would have voted McCain probably anyway: she brings energy to the campaign in my view. She is not perfect, I don't agree with everything she stands for but her spunk is what excites many.

I do beleive people sho live in Alaska are still basically like most of us, hard workers, have dreams for a better country and world plus are mixture of cultures, education, hobbies and goals, just like those of us in the lower 48. As for getting off the subject, as Grannysroost said, it has much to do with personal attacks and posting opinions from some they would like to have us beleive are facts...

I think the best thing to do is let some of these threads die, I am so tired of the bashing her over everything. Those who are supporting Obama or anyone other than McCain are going to keep this up for another 7 weeks. As for ethnic jokes, our son in law is Jewish and tells the best Jewish jokes of anyone. If we can't poke fun at ourselves we are truely sad and unhappy people. Now, I think I will jump on one of the other threads to see what is being directed at Sarah and how bad she is today...and yes, we are way off the subject again...

The alleged "record" of native indifferences that were orginally posted prove absolutely nothing about Palin's feelings toward the native community of Alaska. Nothing, Nada, zip. They are simply more spin by the liberal, morally corupt, media machine.
