In 1996 the federal government came in and usurped Alaska's Constitution by giving "rural" Alaskan residents preferential treatment.
On federal lands, to be accurate. In most states, federal lands are under state fish and game rules. Such as VT and the national forest lands: hunting, fishing and trapping is governed by state fish and game laws, not federal rules. With Alaska and subsistence hunting/fishing on federal lands and waters, there are federal rules. And making heads or tails out of all the state and federal subsistence rules is a nightmare.

Does your state print its ballots in Zwahili, Portuguese, or Chinese? No? Then I guess your state governor must HATE those people and their languages. That's the kind of moronic stupidity I see being posted here. Get a clue.

No. My interpretation is that she supported it with reservations. The reservations won out and the project wasn't funded. She might have supported a scaled down project, but it's likely they weren't cost effective either.

I don't have to make this stuff up or spin any facts. I just post what's out there for all to see if they would just take off the blinders. Support the woman if you must for what you see as a benefit to your state but for Pete's sake don't expect me to swallow 'the liberal's are fabricating' all the negative stuff' that is out there. The proof is easily found to be FACT not spin.

Nation & World | Palin's earmark requests: more per person than any other state | Seattle Times Newspaper

Quote:
Just this year, she sent to Sen. Ted. Stevens, R-Alaska, a proposal for 31 earmarks totaling $197 million — more, per person, than any other state.
Quote:
Yet documents Palin's office released to The Seattle Times on Tuesday show her cuts in earmarks were far more modest than she claimed. Last year, Palin requested $254 million in earmarks, not $550 million, so her cuts this year were only 22 percent, not the 63 percent she claimed.

Palin did indeed say no to the bridge to nowhere, but only after a public outcry about the bridge being a prime example of pork barrel spending.

The following is from the Wikipedia entry for the "Bridge to Nowhere":

Quote:
In September 2006, during her campaign for Governor, Sarah Palin visited Ketchikan to express her support for the Gravina Island Bridge project. At a public forum, Palin held up a pro-bridge t-shirt designed by a Ketchikan artist, Mary Ida Henrikson. The legend on the shirt was "Nowhere Alaska 99901", referencing the buzzword of "Bridge to Nowhere" and the primary zip code of Ketchikan.
Quote:
In October, when asked, "Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?", she answered: "Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now - while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."
There are other sources, including YouTube videos showing Sarah Palin saying what is quoted above.

And while it was eventually "no" to the bridge, it was "yes" to the money - Alaska got the money that was originally earmarked for the bridge.

Did you ever stop to think that there's a reason behind the higher per capita spending? If it costs $100 to erect an basketball goal in Chicago how much will it cost to erect that very same goal in Chevak? $400, $500??

It would be nice if every single village in the State of Alaska had flush toiliets and consistently running clean water.
